About us

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to visit my website.

I have always been a huge animal lover, and animals have been a very special part of my life for as long as I can remember. My journey into breeding began through my love of the beautiful British Shorthair. I was instantly drawn to their stunning appearance, but it was their wonderful personalities that truly captured my heart. They are such a laid-back, gentle and affectionate breed, with a calm nature that makes them incredibly special companions.

Why Lunabears?
Choosing the name Lunabears felt like the perfect fit for my love of the British Shorthair. The word “bears” was inspired by the breed's adorable teddy-bear-like appearance, with their round faces, chunky bodies and beautiful plush coats. “Luna” brings in a little touch of the moon, which I have always felt has a lovely connection to cats and their mysterious, graceful
nature.

Together, Lunabears represents two things I adore about British Shorthairs — their gorgeous teddy-bear looks and the magical, special character that cats have.

A Family Passion
Lunabears really is a family affair. My children have grown up sharing my love for this wonderful breed and are very much involved in life with our cats and kittens.
My two eldest children, who are now young adults, have developed a real love for British Shorthairs themselves and are a wonderful help with our kittens. They particularly enjoy spending time with them and helping with their socialisation, giving them lots of gentle interaction, attention and positive experiences as they grow.

My youngest daughter is also a very special part of our Lunabears family. She is home educated, and our family is proudly neurodivergent, with both ASD and ADHD being part of our everyday family life. I have found the calm, gentle and laid-back nature of the British Shorthair to be particularly wonderful within our home.

There is something very special about having a cat who is happy to simply be nearby, who doesn't demand constant attention and who brings a sense of calm and companionship to the home. My youngest daughter has developed a beautiful bond with our cats, and I love seeing the comfort, enjoyment and companionship they bring to her everyday life.
This is also one of the reasons I feel British Shorthairs can be such wonderful family cats. While every child and every cat is different, their generally calm and easy-going nature can make them a lovely addition to family life. In our own experience, they have fitted beautifully into our neurodivergent household and have become a much-loved part of our family.

Raising Happy, Confident Kittens
Because our kittens are raised as part of our family, they experience everyday household life from an early age. They have lots of gentle human interaction and, where appropriate, plenty of positive experiences with different people.
Our children play an important role in this, particularly when it comes to socialisation. We want our kittens to grow up understanding that people are kind, gentle and safe, helping them develop into confident and well-rounded companions.

I am a GCCF registered British Shorthair breeder and take great pride in raising my kittens in a loving, caring home environment. For me, breeding is about so much more than producing beautiful kittens. It is about giving them the best possible start in life and putting their health, happiness, temperament and wellbeing first.

I also love attending GCCF cat shows, which gives me the opportunity to meet other breeders, learn more about the breed and continue developing my knowledge and understanding of the British Shorthair. I thoroughly enjoy being part of the showing community and celebrating this wonderful breed.

Above all, my aim is to raise healthy, happy and confident British Shorthair kittens who are given the love, care and attention they deserve from the very beginning.

Thank you for visiting Lunabears and for taking the time to learn a little more about me, my family and our passion for these beautiful teddy-bear-like cats.
